Pergamon Museum Berlin
The Pergamon Museum is one of Berlin's most popular attractions. It showcases 'Classical Antiquities', including jewelry, mosaics, vases, sculptures and architectural remains. The collection was begun in the 1600's by the princes of Brandenburg, and has continued to this day. The current museum opened in 1930, although the priceless collection was divided after the war, and split between the two sides of the city. It wasn't until the 1990's that the two parts were reunited to form one of the greatest Antiquities collections in the world.
Over 850 000 visitors walk through the museum's doors annually to behold the priceless works inside, much of which was acquired through excavations in Greece and Italy. Ancient architecture and household items provide an intimate look into the ancient lives of these people, and bring their country's mythology to life. The art and sculptures areas hold beautiful works of art, which are in exceptional shape and form considering their age. The main floor of the building is newly designed, and beautifully shows off the Greek art that is newly on display, and museum will see many other new renovations and changes over the next few year, making more room and updated space to display its treasures.
