German Beer
The Germans have long been ranked among the top beer drinkers in the world. This is a nation that loves the stuff, and they annually are noted as one of the top five beer-swilling countries, drinking back an average of just under 300 pints each per year. This love for beer has resulted in an astounding number of different brews being concocted in Germany, most of which are smooth, malty and delicious.
Biergartens are a common sight in Berlin, a place where locals and travelers can meet to try a wide variety of beer, kick back, and drink the day away. These large halls also usually serve robust pub fare such as Wurst or Pretzels, so you can accompany your meal of beer with....well, food.
Most Biergartens are often nothing more than rows of picnic tables under umbrellas or shady trees, and they usually work on a self-serve basis. Loretta's Beirgarten in Berlin is one of the better ones, also worth trying are Prater Garten and Golgotha.
The different kinds of beer in Germany are endless, so the best way to learn about them is simply to go try them! Try ordering a variety of kinds when you are at a restaurant or Biergarten in Germany, tasting the distinct quality and flavor of each one, and picking your favorite!
