Berlin nightlife
The best word to describe Berlin's nightlife is insanity. Berlin's younger population love to dance, love to be with friends, love the clubs, and just generally love to party. Its no wonder that the city hosts a yearly weekend of debauchery dubbed 'The Love Parade', a 52 hour blitz of clubbing where the best DJ's from around the world are imported to the city, and 1.5 million revelers, both local and from the world over, take to the streets and clubs.
The annual Love Parade is held during the 3rd weekend in July, but if you won't be here during this time, don't worry: Berlin's nightlife maintains its craziness year round, and has become known and loved as Europe's #1 hotspot for clubbing.
Bars typically open their doors around 6pm, and fill up quickly with groups of friends meeting up for drinks and snacks. These bars are only the starting point of the night though, and just as they wind down around 10, the clubs in the city are opening up. Berlin's streets are packed with clubs of every sort, playing rock, disco, techno, rave, hip hop, drum and bass...just about every musical genre out there. They generally fill up around midnight, and don't slow down until dawn, when clubbers leave for after parties or head to the 24-hour cafes that litter the city.
Where does one even start? The best way to find out what's going on in Berlin is to pick up a copy of Tip, Zutty or 030, all of which are publications that list the nighttime events taking place during the week. If you don't get a chance to plan ahead, just dress up in your best club gear and head out. You're sure to come across many pubs and clubs.
The Mitte District has some great clubs, especially Tresor, playing some of the best techo beats in Berlin. Prenzlauer Berg district is packed with popular clubs, and Ffiedrichshain is also a good bet.
